An Understatement (August 2009)

Shall we kiss
like we're in a summer hideout,
freezing like corpses,
bundled in sheer bliss?

Because our bodies
will touch
but will not react,
for the chemistry that should spark
does not exist between us
but rather,
in the deepest dimensions
we cannot possibly fathom.

We live like magnets;
compelling each other to shy away.

Shall,
then,
this kiss be fulfilled
if the only true thing that lives
is the lie that steals the reality
behind the contact?

Something's amiss.
For this love,
relying on a kiss
is not love at all.

What then is this?
